- 1/4 cup heavy cream, for pouring in between the rolls
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 4 oz cream cheese, cold
- 3/4 cup powdered sugar
- 1/2 tbsp lemon zest, about 1/2 lemon zested
- 1/2 tbsp fresh lemon juice
Instructions
- Prepare the yeast mixture by combining warmed milk, active dry yeast, and granulated sugar; let it sit until foamy.
- In a mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture, eggs, softened butter, vanilla extract, and lemon zest. Mix until a soft dough forms.
- Knead the dough until smooth and elastic (about 5-10 minutes). Let it rise in a greased bowl until doubled in size (approximately 1 hour).
- For the filling, mix together softened butter, brown sugar, granulated sugar, lemon zest, lemon juice, and salt.
- Roll out the dough into a rectangle, spread the filling evenly, roll tightly into a log shape, and slice into pieces.
- Arrange rolls on baking sheets lined with parchment paper; allow them to rise again for 30 minutes.
