Ingredients

  • 2 cups dried Navy beans (or 3 cans of white beans)
  • 2 cups chicken stock (or vegetable stock)
  • 1 cup water
  • 6 tbsp ketchup
  • 3 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar
  • Spices: garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, salt
  • Cornstarch for thickening

Instructions

  1. Rinse and soak dried navy beans overnight or use the quick soak method.
  2. In a large pot over medium heat, combine soaked/dried beans with chicken stock, water, Worcestershire sauce, ketchup, brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, and salt.
  3. Bring to a boil; then reduce heat and simmer uncovered for about 30 minutes until thickened.
  4. Mix cornstarch with water in a small bowl; stir into the bean mixture and cook for an additional 5-10 minutes until desired thickness is achieved.
  5. Remove from heat and let cool slightly before serving.
