Ingredients

  • 1 head savoy cabbage (1216 leaves)
  • 450 g ground beef or meatloaf mix
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 1/4 cup uncooked white rice
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 egg
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Dash of allspice
  • 3/4 tsp dried thyme
  • 2 tbsp chopped fresh parsley
  • 1/2 cup beef stock or water

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Cook rice in a small pot with water until absorbed. Set aside.
  3. In a large pot of boiling water, blanch cabbage leaves for 3-5 minutes until pliable.
  4. Drain leaves on paper towels.
  5. In a mixing bowl, combine beef, onion, cooked rice, egg, salt, pepper, allspice, thyme, and parsley.
  6. Fill each cabbage leaf with the mixture and roll tightly.
  7. Place rolls seam-side down in an oven-safe dish; pour beef stock over them.
  8. Cover and bake for 30 minutes; uncover and bake for an additional 10 minutes.
